The pieces
Are these made-to-order?
Yes. Every OTAKU STUDIOS piece is hand-finished after you place your order. We don't keep stock. Production takes 5–7 business days, then shipping on top.
What does "1 of 1" actually mean?
Literally one. The base garment is sourced from vintage stock — the original doesn't exist anymore. The artwork is hand-applied. We do not reproduce. When a piece sells, it's gone for good.
Why made-to-order?
Two reasons. Sustainability — no warehouses of unsold inventory, no waste. Quality — every piece gets focused studio time instead of being assembly-line.
Are these officially licensed?
No. Our pieces are independent artistic interpretations and parody works inspired by anime, manga, and pop culture. We don't claim ownership of any third-party characters or trademarks.
Can I commission a custom piece?
Sometimes. Email hello@otakustudios.store with what you're imagining (anime / fandom + garment type). We take on a few commissions per quarter — usually £150–£400 depending on complexity.
Sizing & fit
How do I know if it'll fit me?
Every product page has a measured size chart. Because pieces are reworked vintage, the cut isn't always standard — when in doubt, check the chest and shoulder measurements against a top you already own. Or see our Sizing Guide.
I'm between sizes. What do I do?
Most pieces are oversized streetwear cuts — sizing up gives the intended fit. If you want a fitted look, size down. Still unsure? Email us BEFORE ordering at hello@otakustudios.store — we'd rather spend 5 minutes helping you pick than have you receive something that doesn't fit.
Shipping & delivery
How long until I receive my order?
Total time = production (5–7 business days) + shipping:
- UK: ~6–10 business days total
- International Express (£11.99): ~10–14 business days total
- International Standard (£6.99, free over £80): ~12–21 business days total
Do you ship to my country?
We ship to 42 countries worldwide. If you don't see yours at checkout, email us — we'll usually find a way.
Will I pay customs?
Orders outside the UK may attract customs duties or import VAT on arrival. These are charged by your country, not us. See our Shipping Policy for details.
Returns
Can I return a piece?
No, not for change of mind or sizing. Because every piece is made-to-order specifically for you, made-to-order goods are exempt from the standard 14-day cooling-off period under UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Please use our Sizing Guide and email us before ordering if you're unsure.
What if my piece arrives damaged or faulty?
That's different — your statutory rights are fully protected. Email us within 7 days of delivery with photos at hello@otakustudios.store and we'll refund, remake, or replace at no cost to you. Full details on our Refund Policy page.
Can I cancel my order?
Only if production hasn't started yet. We typically begin within 24–48 hours of order placement — email us immediately if you need to cancel.
Care & longevity
How do I wash my piece?
Cold wash, inside out, on a delicate cycle. Hang dry — never tumble dry. For hand-painted pieces, hand wash in cold water and air dry flat. The longer you treat it well, the longer the artwork lasts.
What if a piece falls apart over time?
Vintage garments have a previous life — some fragility is part of the character. If a seam fails within 30 days of arrival, email us and we'll repair it free. Beyond that, we offer paid repairs at cost — we'd rather restore than replace.
Sustainability
How is this actually sustainable?
Two layers. No new fabric — every base garment is rescued from vintage stock. No overproduction — we make to order, so nothing sits unsold or ends up in landfill. On average, each piece upcycled keeps roughly 2.5–6.5 kg of CO₂-equivalent out of the atmosphere compared to producing new equivalents (varies by garment type — your product page shows the exact figure).
Packaging?
Recycled tissue, plastic-free mailers, kraft tape. No virgin plastic in the chain.
